Summary:
- Performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks in a clinical setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Helps patients by providing information and education, services, and assistance.
- Maintains medical supplies inventory and performs preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operating.
- Performs specimen collection and ordering while remaining compliant with OSHA and COLA/CLIA standards and keeping patient information confidential.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, reconciling current medications and allergies, recording medical history, recording history of present illness, and confirming purpose of visit.
- Prepares patients for examination by taking blood pressure, heart rate, respirations, pulse ox, weight, and reporting patient history summary to the provider.
- Saves doctors’ time by helping with office procedures including setting up procedure trays while maintaining the sterile field.
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; and keeping patient information confidential.
- Counsels patients by transmitting physician’s orders and questions about procedures.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
- Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees.
- Maintains good working relations with clinical staff and other clinic employees through appropriate communication.
- Instills confidence in patients by maintaining a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner.
- Communicating with patients by triaging and completing telephone encounters
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Education & Experience:
- High school graduate preferred.
- Successful completion of nursing assistant course or the equivalent.
- Previous hospital experience with acceptable references preferred.
- Must pass a pre-employment test for nursing assistant.
- BLS certification required.
- Required Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and spelling and office ethics.
- Shows dependability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and co-workers; transports patients and equipment as appropriate.
Physical Demands:
- Required to sit and stand for long periods.
- Must be able to communicate with or without reasonable accommodations – speak and hear.
- Able to use both hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to push up to 300lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
